MACS Portfolio Description

The portfolio required for the Media Arts and Computer Science (MACS) graduate program at New Mexico Highlands University is meant to allow potential applicants to demonstrate their skills and abilities. Applicants should see this as an opportunity to show off what is behind whatever degrees or work experience they list in the other parts of the application.

If you are wondering what you should include in your portfolio, ask yourself what are the practical, technical projects or work products you are most proud of. For example, in your undergraduate program, did you write a program or design a video that shows off your abilities. How about that computer network or web page you designed? Was there a database or animation sequence you developed?

Your portfolio should include any work you have done that you feel would show the application review committee what you can do and could be expected to do as part of the MACS program. Choose the best of what you have done. While you should not include everything you have done, you are encouraged to include more than one item or type of item. Whatever you send, be sure to copies of the actual work, not simply descriptions of what you have done, although a description should be included to aid the committee in making its decisions.

Submit your material in whatever format is most appropriate. For example, DVD's CD's, zip disks are all acceptable as are email attachments. Printed copies of some material are also acceptable but if the material is meant to "run" in some way, you should also send the electronic version. If there is some other format not listed here that would work better for you, please contact us before sending it. Regardless of the format, make sure you send a description of the material as well as instructions on how to run whatever you want us to review. Bottom line: remember that you are trying to give us as full an experience as possible of your skills and abilities. Send us whatever you think will do that.

Good luck.
