Financial Aid for Media Arts and Computer Science Graduate Students

I. Assistantships

Graduate Research Assistantships are available for students with different levels of funding. A full assistantship in the Computer Science area involves an $8000.00 stipend plus a full tuition waiver for 20 hours of work per week for a whole academic year. Assistantships in the Media Arts area are the same except that the stipend is $6500.

Some students receive half assistantships which involve a half stipend, a tuition waver for 6 units of course work and 10 hours of work. Students receiving assistantships should expect to work primarily in support of a research program with possibly some lab management. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate an ability to productively work in computer related research. To apply, be sure to check the appropriate block on the graduate application and then contact the appropriate department faculty.

II. Grants

Graduate students can also receive funding through grants received by faculty. In some cases it is even possible for a graduate student to help faculty write a grant that will fund the graduate student in his or her second year.

III. Minority Scholarships

Minority Scholarships applications forms are available from the Graduate School. Admission status must be granted at the time of application and a letter of support will be needed from the department. Women and minorities may apply for Graduate Research Assistantships as well as Minority Scholarships.

Deadline for Minority Scholarship Applications is end of March, Early April. Any interested should contact the Graduate School.
