Programs
The discipline of Computer Science offers to Highlands undergraduates a
degree in Computer Science with two areas of concentrations:
Hardware/Software Systems and an individualized program of study. Two
minors are also offered and are designed so that students may
convert readily to the Computer Science major.
The Computer Science program at NMHU is a five-year curriculum dependent on the
student's academic preparation prior to enrollment at NMHU. Most students will
need the full five years to complete the program; however, if an entering freshman
has a solid foundation in Mathematics, English, and Science, the student will enter
the Computer Science curriculum at an advanced level and could complete the program
within four years.
The Computer Science Department at New Mexico Highlands offers several different
concentrations in the Computer Science Degree. If you are a 'techie', have ambitions
to be a Computer Guru, or be Math and Science inclined, the concentration in Software
and Hardware Systems is for you. If you have definite goals that don't fit those above,
then we have an Individualized Concentration for you. We will work out a program of
study with you to achieve your dreams. Examples of exciting areas you can prepare for
include: Cyptography, Network Security, Computer Engineering, Computer Graphics,
Web Master, Scientific Visualization, and Artificial Intelligence.
The department also offers two minors (Software/Hardware Systems and Combined Science)
should you want to major in some other field but have a background in Computer Science.
